MINUTES: D.R.Y.L. Meeting, Riverside YC, 09/06/2005

 

OPENING:

Pres. Bocock opened the meeting at 2015 hours with the pledge of allegiance to the flag.

A representative from the Delaware Riverkeeper, Tracey C., spoke about the diluted VX nerve gas being planned for dumping into the Delaware from the E.I. DuPont facility. This substance will be both flammable and caustic. The fish population will be in danger should the dumping be carried out. A discussion was also held concerning the liquid natural gas facility being considered for construction in Pennsauken, NJ. A facility is also located on the PA side of the river in the Bridesburg area.

 

Roll Call

Roll call of officers and committee heads: Officers, all present. All Comm. Hds present except co chair of public affairs.

Roll call of clubs and/or associations: Representatives from 30 member clubs were present. Paulsboro Sportsmen's Assn. has not been present at any meeting in the year 2005.

 

Approval of the Minutes:

The minutes of the previous meeting were accepted as printed.

 

Officers and Committee Reports:

Officer Reports: Secretary Garwood thanked the Broadwater’s for providing the meeting notes for the Aug. 2005 meeting.

 

Audit and Budget: None

Banquet: February 26, 06

Boater Voter Coalition: Jerry mentioned a member of the Camden City Yacht Club Butch Meter has passed away, a long time recreational boater. See Shoreline planning.

C.B.Y.C.A: The next meeting will be at the Corinthian YC. Commodore’s Ball, Best Western, Baltimore, MD $75.00. See John Garlotta for specifics.

Cruise: No report.

Fleet Surgeon: No report. Clothing sales going well.

 

Marine Legislation,

National (NBF): Next meeting in Michigan City IN.

New Jersey: No report. Next meeting at Bordentown YC, see Barrie Borman for details.

Pennsylvania Boating Assoc./PBA(se): PBAse meeting on Sep. 13 @ Anchor YC.

PBA state meeting Sep. 24th. at the Raystown Resort, Entriken, PA. PA F&B Comm. meeting @ Independence Seaport Museum, Sep 26 & 27, 2005.

 

Pageant:

Toni Nespola reporting: Introduced visiting princesses, past princesses and past DRYL queen; pageant related events were mentioned the list of pageant winners including Miss DRYL Jamie Hartman, Yapewi AC; 1st Runner-up Stacy Toth, Bordentown YC and 2nd Runner-up Jenna Andrusko, Neshaminy Harbor YC; as were the winners of the various other competitions like best dressed club, best dressed power boat, etc. Thanks were expressed to the docking committee. John Maloney mentioned that 81 vessels were docked. See Toni for specific details.

Picnic:

Butch Gricco reporting, King of the Delaware contest still on. Parking @ Riverside YC; boat reservations very good; breakfast @ Riverside on Sunday call Rich Rogers, 610 521 4747 for reservations

Public Affairs:

A letter has been received from R. Santorum concerning the US Senate bill for the termination the NOAA wireless transmitted weather conditions. It is his determination that this bill will close a gap of accurate weather information for the Erie Lake PA area.

Regatta: No report.

Shoreline Planning:

Jerry Donofrio reporting; Jerry, Ron Blackeby and Joe Campbell accompanied by Cherokee management Co. representatives went on a water tour of the areas in question to discuss the shoreline management of the Kramer Hill, NJ project.

 

Safety: No report.

Yearbook: See new business.

 

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

Oil spill- Vessel hull cleaning stations continue to operate, call (609) 548-3154 for an appointment; boat can remain in the water.

Discussed VX nerve gas issue at beginning of meeting.

 

NEW BUSINESS

June Donofrio reporting; mentioned the possibility of adjusting the League meeting schedule with regard to location.

A motion was made, seconded and approved to pay submitted Von Nieda picnic bills.

A motion was made, seconded and approved to assist the Camden City YC in memorial gift to family of Butch Meters.

 

GOOD AND WELFARE

One of suspender type PFD has been recalled due to operational deficiency. See Jerry Donofrio for details.

Many opportunities mentioned for fun in the sun at various member club events see activities pages in yearbook.

 

FINANCIAL REPORTS

The Financial reports were read. A motion was made, seconded and approved to accept the financial reports as read and pay the bills.

CLOSING:

A motion was made, seconded and approved to adjourn meeting @ 2200 plus hours.
