MINUTES: D.R.Y.L. Meeting,

Pennsylvania Y.C. Feb. 07, 2006

OPENING:

Pres. Jusino opened the meeting at 2010 hours with the pledge of allegiance to the flag. The League was welcomed to PaYC by Steve Zielinski also introduced were PaYC princess Stephanie Zielinski and other attending princesses.

SPECIAL PRESENTATION.

Ms Sara Whiting spoke on the matter of Pa Sea Grant/Smart Boating. The discussion centered on Lake Erie, Delaware River Estuary with emphasis on ecological aspects. In conjunction with Penn State University she encouraged the local yacht clubs and marinas to complete a survey form. She also discussed various forms of pollution control, i.e. bilge socks (oil absorber) etc.

 

Roll call of officers and committee heads:

Officers, all present except 3rd V.P., Joe Campbell assisted the Financial Secretary.

All Committee Hds present except Legislation, excused.

Roll call of clubs and/or associations:

Representatives from33 member clubs were present.

Editor’s note: four member clubs have 3 or more consecutive absences continuing since year 2005.

Approval of the Minutes:

The minutes of the previous meeting were accepted as corrected.

 

Officers and Committee Reports:

Officer Reports: Past president Bocock mentioned that the Herb Stone Award will again be available for distribution, further action to come;

Secretary Garwood mentioned that he has attempted to contact Barrie Borman, without success, Barrie is recovering from an illness, others have tried also without success. Fleet Surgeon Borgersen suggested that we should not inundate Barrie with attempts to contact him.

Audit and Budget: None

 

Banquet: Mary Jusino & Colleen Maloney; Details for the Feb.,2006 banquet Cannstatters. Schedule: cocktails 7--8p; dinner 8p; ceremonies 9p; live music & dancing till 12m. Price $42.00 per person. Menu includes prime rib of beef, flounder stuffed with crab meat; league provided beverages beer, wine and soft drinks, mixed drinks not included. Txs need to be picked up.

 

Boater Voter Coalition: Jerry Donofrio reported on NJ legislation( bill 2624 ) having to do with recreational requirements for boaters being phased in by age groups. Another requirement looms ahead, there are discussions going on which could lead to a requirement that every 12 ft or above powerboat user will need at least $500,000.00 of liability insurance.

C.B.Y.C.A: Jerry Donofrio mentioned next meeting at Bush River YC , dues are now due and payable also roster book inputs are due. Other topics mentioned include requirements for all persons afloat/underway to wear PFDs and the LNG facility construction/operation at Sparrows Pt.,

Cruise: Bob Bocock reporting--distance between stopovers will be kept at a minimum due to the high cost of fuel. The fleet will be limited to fifteen boats. $50.00 deposit insures space on cruise.

Fleet Surgeon: Harry (Doc) Borgersen mentioned that his year book article will focus on cerebral artery problems.

 

Marine Legislation:

National(NBF): Jerry Donofrio reporting: CBYCA supports NBF delegate by providing travel expenses

New Jersey: No report.

Pennsylvania Boating Assoc./PBA(se): R. Beers reporting- mentioned on-line boating certification tests @ www.fish.state. PA.US; cost$15.00 pre test. In Pa, 9 fatal accidents were recorded in year 2005. Boating Advisory Board needs new members. Also mentioned during the earlier special presentation was that PA Legislators Godshall and B. Smith are focusing on efforts to enact legislation concerning "clean marina" in the Commonwealth.

Pageant: Toni Nespola reporting on the 2006 Pageant is scheduled Aug. 12th., 2006 at Phila. Marine Center & Independence Seaport Museum

Picnic: Butch Gricco reporting: event scheduled for Sept. 09, 2006 a Riverside YC, more later.

Public Affairs: Web Master, Byron Campbell The site is up and running.

Shoreline Planning: Jerry Donofrio reported that a new NJ EPA Commissioner has been appointed.

Safety: M.Kovacs reporting- Boating Safety week will be observed locally May21--27,2006, League will have inspection sites. More to come.

Yearbook: June Donofrio reporting. June reported that several clubs have not submitted club pages, must do so immediately. Commercial ads are doing well¡ can be submitted at Mar., 2006 League meeting for direct use. Fleet pages ads are welcomed.

 

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

Camden City Yacht Club application for League membership was discussed. Visitation committee members, Garwood, Hart and Sproul recommended that the CCYC be accepted as a League member club. A motion was made, seconded and approved to accept this yacht club as a League member club. Mr. John Horner, Commodore attended the meeting and accepted the membership.

 

NEW BUSINESS

The topic of League meeting host club schedule was discussed. After a long discussion regarding the proposed revised schedule (intersperse north and south meeting locations) it was decided to continue with the original the schedule.

Motions were made and approved to provide the Pageant comm and the Banquet comm. with operating funds also approved was the expenditure for National Boating Federation membership dues.

 

GOOD AND WELFARE

Apparel manager, Harry Borgersen mentioned his supply of tee and sweat shirts is bulging; come and see.

Denise Leo new commodore of West End was introduced.

Bordentown YC needs additional insurance, needs contacts to find quotes.

 

FINANCIAL REPORTS

The Financial reports were read

A motion was made, seconded and approved to approve the financial report as read and pay the bills.

CLOSING: A motion was made, seconded and approved to adjourn meeting @ approx. 2220 hours.
