West End Boat Club   

MINUTES: D.R.Y.L. Meeting, West End YC. Aug. 1, 2006

OPENING:

Pres. Jusino opened the meeting at 2000 hours with the pledge of allegiance to the flag.

The League was welcomed to West End YC by Commodore Denise Leo, the members present appreciated the food available.

Ms Mary Ann Wiggins spoke about the Burlington Decorated/Lighted Boat Parade Aug. 26,Ô07 beginning at the 7:00/7:30 time frame. Both non-lighted boats will parade first(before dusk) followed by the lighted boats. $ prizes for various categories.

 

Roll call of officers and committee heads: Officers, all present except Treas. Phyllis Blackeby, note Joe Campbell filled in for the Treas. All Comm. Hds present. Note: It was questioned why Mrs. Blackeby wasn’t excused, President Jusino stated beginning 08/01/06 there would be no more excused absences.

3rd VP D. Hart mentioned the Poker Run Regatta was a great affair.

No report for the Herb Stone award.

 

Roll call of clubs and/or associations:

Representatives from 27 member clubs were present. Absent clubs/Assns. included: Bridesburg OC; Capitol City; Columbus; Del.Val.Youth; Florence Twp., Lagoon view, Paulsboro SA, Philadelphia Red Dragon; Riverton and Salem; also absent was PaBoating Assn. SE.

Editor’s note: Salem Boat Club. has missed 7 consecutive meetings 2006 and Philadelphia YC attended only one meeting in 2006.

 

Approval of the Minutes: The minutes of the previous meeting were accepted as printed.

 

Officers and Committee Reports:

Officer Reports: President Jusino mentioned that he attended the League Cruise and commented that it was a great event.

 

Audit and Budget: No report.

Awards & Grant: No report

Banquet: Date February 24, 2007.

Boater Voter Coalition: No report.

C.B.Y.C.A: Normal activities restarting after summer rest, next mtg. Baltimore YC on Aug.19th. Fund raiser was mentioned $20.00 per ticket, 100 txs. available.

 

Cruise: Eleven vessels and crews participated on the cruise, cudos were given to the Wellwood Marina for their cordial attitude and helpfulness while the League was on dock.

 

Fleet Surgeon: Harry (Doc) Borgersen reporting on chocolate. The dark version is the best it contains antioxidants and other helpful ingredients

Marine Legislation,

National(NBF): Jerry Donofrio reporting, next meeting Oct. 21, 06 in Virginia will celebrate 40th anniversary; discussion could include but not limited to eminent domain and flooding. Jerry mentioned that his expenses for this trip are estimated to be less than $500.00.

New Jersey: Jerry Donofrio reporting: It was mentioned that proposed state bill A1953 requires liability insurance for certain vessels (greater than 55HP) in the amount of $100K or $200K, this bill has been through the NJ assembly and will be introduced into the House; it was noted however that most accidents are caused by less powerfully powered boats. Nutarlized VX, U.S. GovenmentCenter for Disease Control has approved the US Army plan for desposal.

Pennsylvania: same as item regarding neutralized VX nerve gas.

Pageant: Toni Nespola reporting, attending princesses were introduced. Button & tee shirt orders and docking material distributed; preliminary judging week before Pageant. Pageant at Independence Seaport Museum begins with 4pm rehearsal for princesses and commodores; 5pm pageant begins. John Maloney briefed all on the docking procedure and guidelines. Docking begins on or about 9.00a.

Picnic: Butch Gricco reporting: date for picnic is September 09, 2006, advance ticket is $15.00, at door $20.00, children 10-16, $10.00

Public Affairs: No report.

Regatta: Fred Saunders reporting, 243 hands were played, total prize money $3,900.00, top prize(4 Kings) $1,950.00 other prizes included but not limited to 4 nines-$975.00 and others. Regatta report included in minutes records.

Shoreline Planning: Joe Campbell discussed conversations with the Cherokee Development Co. regarding the Kramer Hill program including Farragut Sportsmen’s Assn.

Safety: No Report

Yearbook: No report.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS The motion to un-table the motion to provide the League’s NBF representative be reimbursed by the League for expenses for the Virginia trip on October 21st. The motion was amended to limit the reimbursement to $500.00. The motion was seconded and defeated by club roll call.

NEW BUSINESS

o. A motion was made, seconded and approved to pay the Stein, the Florists bill for a fruit basket sent to Ron Small with best wishes for a speedy recovery of his accident injuries.

o. A motion was made, seconded and approved to pay Pageant expenses.

 

GOOD AND WELFARE

o. Many League events were mentioned, see year book/web site for details.

FINANCIAL REPORTS

A motion was made, seconded and approved to pay the bills.

CLOSING: A motion was made, seconded and approved to adjourn meeting @ approx. 2145 hours.
