MINUTES - D.R.Y.L. Meeting hosted by National Park Boat Club on November 6, 2007

OPENING: Meeting called to order @ 8:09pm. President Jusino introduced Past Commodore, John Friars, who welcomed the DRYL and thanked everyone for coming and mentioned how easy it is to get to the club because of the new road. John also the fine job the kitchen committee did with the dinner.

ROLL CALL OF OFFICERS: All present.

ROLL CALL OF COMMITTEE HEADS/ORGANIZATIONS: All present except Colleen Sproul, Banquet, Bob Grace, Cruise, Toni Nespola, Pageant, Fred Saunders, Regatta and Byron Campbell, Web Master.

ROLL CALL OF CLUBS: 28 clubs present

APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Minutes were accepted as published.

OFFICERS & COMMITTEE REPORTS

President: President Jusino thanked the clubs whose closing days he and Mary attended. They had a wonderful time at each event.

1st Vice President: John Maloney – no report, but did introduce Princess Jessica from Yapewi. Thanked her for always being there and doing a fine job.

2nd Vice President: Butch Gricco – no report.

3rd Vice President: Steve Zielinski – no report.

Secretary: Rick Patton – presented a thank you card from Ron Blackeby for the gift basket.

Audit & Budget: Bill Branchide – no report.

Banquet: Mary Jusino – February 23, 2008. More information next month.

Cruise: Bob Grace – no report.

Donations – no report.

Fleet Surgeon: Harry Borgenson - Doc mentioned about lyme disease. Threat from tick bite should end after first frost. Lyme disease is detectable by bull’s eye rash and treatable with antibiotics.

NJ Legislation: John Honer – hopes to meet with Joe Roberts about current hot topics in the near future. John visited the new 70’ fireboat, Independence, stationed in Philadelphia at a cost of $5 million.

Pageant: Toni Nespola - no report

Picnic: Joe Gricco – no report.

Public Affairs: Bill Garwood – Letter sent to Representative Allison Schwartz asking for her support of Senate Bill 2550.

Regatta: Fred Saunders – no report.

Safe Boating: Ron Blackeby – handed out a flyer concerning cleaning of bilge. Mentioned products and techniques for safely cleaning bilge.

Shoreline Planning: Joe Campbell – no report.

Webmaster: Bryon Campbell – no report.

Yearbook: Denise Leo – 9 covers were submitted from 4 clubs. Winner was John Honer from Camden City Yacht Club. Yearbook Committee will be looking for ads for the yearbook. Prices will be staying the same. All yearbook forms will be available at the December meeting.

Boater Voter: Joe Campbell – no report.

CBYCA: Bob Williams – no report.

National Boating Federation (NBF): Bob Williams – no report.

Pennsylvania Boating Association - SE (PBA): Bill Broadwater reporting…Rex apologizes for not attending; however, Shelley is still slowly recovering from a injury sustained on the boat this summer. Next meeting will be November 21, 2007 at Delaware River Yacht Club. Bill Garwood said the meeting was changed to November 28, 2007 at Delaware River Yacht Club due to guest speaker scheduling. The guest speakers are Dr. Douglas Austin and Dan Martin of the PA Fish & Boat Commission. Italian dinner will be served but reservations are necessary. It is BYO Wine. Call ahead for reservation on or before 11/26 at 215-817-3451.

NEW BUSINESS

Discussion ensued regarding the January 2008 DRYL meeting as it falls on January 1, 2008. Scheduling problem with Happy Hour Yacht Club and VFW in Riverside led to a decision to have the January meeting changed to Monday, January 7, 2008 still hosted by Happy Hour Yacht Club at the VFW in Riverside.

Letter from Anna Friars was read by Princess Jessica concerning the drowning of Ryan Lewis this summer in the Delaware River. Anna asked for donations to be sent to the family. A motion to make a $75 donation to Crystal Lewis was passed.

 

FINANCIAL REPORTS

A motion was made, seconded and approved to pay the bills.

GOOD AND WELFARE

Wissinoming Yacht Club is sponsoring a casino trip to Showboat on 11/10 - $25/pp

Wissinoming Yacht Club is hosting a Texas Hold ‘em tournament on 11/30 - $60/pp

Happy Hour Yacht Club Christmas Party on 12/1 - $35/pp – adult party, no kids

PBA-SE looking into seminar regarding global warming and effects to boating community

John Maloney mentioned show on history channel concerning VX gas. Watch it if you get a chance.

Joe Campbell mentioned boat storage safety. Disconnect batteries. Do not use your dockside cords while boat is out of water. Boat is not grounded properly. Do not leave anything plugged in when you leave your boat. Consider fire alarms on your boats during winter storage.

John Friars mentioned the new road into National Park

Winner of 50/50 was Mary Jusino - $60

CLOSING: A motion was made, seconded and approved to adjourn the meeting at 9:05pm
