MINUTES D.R.Y.L. Meeting hosted by Wissinoming YC on March 6, 2007

OPENING: President Jusino opened the meeting @ 8:10pm and introduced Wissinoming Yacht Club’s Commodore, Jerry Kaewell, who welcomed and thanked everyone for attending.

OFFICERS & COMMITTEE REPORTS

President: President Jusino thanked everyone for attending tonight and thanked those who attended the annual DRYL Banquet. Special thanks to Banquet Committee and to Joe Campbell for assistance in smooth transition of duties. Juice also extended congratulation to Person of the Year, Toni Nespola, and to Club of the Year, Neshaminy Harbor YC.

1st Vice President: John Maloney – no report.

2nd Vice President: Butch Gricco – no report.

3rd Vice President: Steve Zielinski - no report.

Secretary: Rick Patton - asked delegates to complete and submit form to update mailing and e-mail address information.

Banquet: Mary Jusino – thanked everyone who helped with banquet and asked for comments/suggestions concerning what was good and how to make banquet even better. Mary reported profit of $1361.76. Date for next banquet will be February 28, 2008 at Cannstatters.

Cruise: Bob Grace – Applications are available for DRYL cruise for week of July 14th. 15 openings. Boats will meet Saturday, July 14 at Summit North; Sunday/ Monday at Tolchester; Tuesday/Wednesday at Port Annapolis; Thursday/Friday at Baltimore YC.

Herb Stone Fund – On hold

Fleet Surgeon: Doc Harry – talked about accidents at home and at work like falls that cause injuries – mostly when not paying attention to everyday activities – be careful. DRYL garments available at next meeting.

NJ Legislation: John Honer – reported on: VX gas issues; list of NJ Legislators; more access to riverfront; boating rules on NJ licensing; mandatory insurance on boats. Full report available on website.

Pageant: Toni Nespola – acknowledged attending princesses – Erin, Harbor Lights and Jessica, Yapewi. Toni handed out forms for princesses that need to be completed and returned by the April meeting. Princess meetings: May 20th at Cannstatters, June 6th public speaking, preliminary judging on August 8th at Cannstatters. Scoring for pageant is 50% for interview, 40% questions and 10% club participation. Toni discussed crown and sash requirements. Theme for pageant not yet determined.

Picnic: Joey Gricco – Von Nieda picnic will be at Riverside YC (Essington) on September 8, 2007 from 12:30 to 6:00pm. Theme is CASINO. Volunteers needed to help with cooking and help at the door. Docking reservations must be in by August meeting for Riverside and Harbor Lights. Boats must arrive on Saturday by 1:30pm at Riverside and by 11:30am at Harbor Lights. Anyone unable to make a reservation at these clubs can make arrangements to stay at West End YC; however, you must make these arrangements yourself. No shuttle will be available.

Public Affairs: Bill Garwood - Commented on articles in Inquirer concerning VX gas issue, Delaware vs NJ on ability to build on waterfront and about a conference that was held at the Seaport Museum to discuss waterfront development in and around Penn’s Landing…especially concerning I-95 being a deterrent for access between waterfront and city and option to put a 7 mile stretch of the highway underground.

Regatta: Fred Saunders – Poker Run will be last Saturday in July (7/28). Awards and picnic immediately follow at Farragut SA. More details in coming months.

Safety: Ron Blackeby – presented Safety Committee report and recommended safety tips such as: carbon monoxide detectors; add handhelds and safety rails; wear life jackets; observe safe fueling rules; add extra fire extinguishers. Safe Boating week is May 19-26. TIP: if in cold water, avoid hypothermia by assuming fetal position to keep warm.

Shoreline Planning: Joe Campbell – reported that Cherokee is out of Camden redevelopment program. City is looking for smaller developers to take over.

Webmaster: Bryon Campbell – Website now offers classified ads for businesses and personal items for sale. Information on Shoreline Planning and DRYL events is also listed.

Yearbook: Juice - Club pages should be in by now. Business and personal ads will be taken until next meeting. Target date for yearbook distribution is April at Anchor YC meeting.

Boater Voter: No report

CBYCA: John Garlotta – Results of questionnaire regarding safe boating states only 5% of PA boaters have safe boating education. Virginia is trying to have mandatory safe boating courses.

National Boating Federation (NBF): Bob Williams – Baltimore lost court battle again LNG pipeline. Plan calls for up to 3 ships per week coming up river causing much river closing time.

Pennsylvania Boating Association - SE (PBA): Next meeting is March 21 at 7pm at Pennsylvania YC

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

Debate between PA & NJ on dredging of Delaware River. PA Port Authority wants to dredge; NJ would rather spend money on ship dockage and waterfront development.

NEW BUSINESS

Bill Branchide made motion to move money from checking to short term CD. Motion passed.

GOOD AND WELFARE

Safe Boating Course at Delaware River YC on March 28 @ 8am – 5pm. Fee is $15 and includes lunch.

Nautical Flea Market at Pennsylvania YC on March 31st. Call John Maloney at 215-264-5704 for info and table reservations. $10 to set up your own table and $15 to rent table from PYC.

Rex & Shelley Beers were not present at meeting because their daughter had a bone marrow operation.

Winner of 50/50 in the amount of $53 was John Honer.
