MINUTES D.R.Y.L. Meeting hosted by Red Dragon Canoe Club on April 3, 2007
OPENING: President Jusino opened the meeting @ 8:02pm and introduced Red Dragon Canoe Club’s Commodore, Bert Redgrave, who welcomed and thanked everyone for attending.
Guest Speaker: Tracy Carluccio – Delaware Riverkeeper Network. Thanked members of DRYL for support in fighting Dupont & the Vx gas dumping. Riverkeepers have withdrawn lawsuit without prejudice – so, if need by, they can refile. Tracy suggested that DRYL members go to website and send thank you to lawmakers for hearing and acting on the wishes of the Riverkeepers and the boating community. Also, spoke on Army Corps of Engineers plan to deepen the channel in the Delaware River to 45’ and what will be done with dredging spoils as well as environmental and wildlife impact and the fact that it does not make economic sense. OFFICERS & COMMITTEE REPORTS
President: President Jusino thanked clubs for their hospitality during events that he and Mary have attended. Also, mentioned that opening days coming up and urged members to attend ceremonies.
1st Vice President: John Maloney – no report.
2nd Vice President: Butch Gricco – no report.
3rd Vice President: Steve Zielinski - no report.
Secretary: Rick Patton – no report.
Audit & Budget: Bill Branchide - Audit complete and copies given to delegates. See your delegate for copy.
Banquet: Mary Jusino – no report.
Cruise: Bob Grace – 9 boats signed up for cruise so far (6 slots still open). Check website for updated schedule and current dockage/electric rates. Cruise is family oriented and will include picnics and activities for all. If you can’t go by boat, consider meeting up with cruise at your favorite stop by car.
Herb Stone Fund – On hold
Fleet Surgeon: Doc Harry – spoke on benefits of chocolate (especially dark) for health because of flavinoids which can be found in other foods. Also spoke on loads of benefits from eating bananas. Doc will bring copies of report to next meeting.
NJ Legislation: John Honer – Bill 1953 concerning legislation on mandatory boat insurance - must have for any boat over 35 hp. Just getting out of committee – needs to pass senate transportation committee. See statement ob website.
Pageant: Toni Nespola – acknowledged attending princesses – Ashley, QCYC and Jessica, Yapewi. Pageant theme for this year is "70s." Program book applications are now available. All pageant forms and applications are available on website. Pageant raffle tickets available in May. Princess applications are due next meeting (May 1st). Docking reservations are due by July 3rd. There will be a meeting for Commodores and Princesses on Sunday, May20th at Wissinoming YC @ 1pm; interview and public speaking seminar @ Wissinoming YC at 7pm at June 6th ; and preliminary judging @ Cannstatters on August 8th at 6pm.
Picnic: Joey Gricco – no report. Picnic will be September 8th at Riverside YC. Theme is "casino." Committee looking for volunteers to help with cooking and activities.
Public Affairs: Bill Garwood - no report.
Regatta: Fred Saunders – Poker Run forms will be available on website soon.
Safety: Ron Blackeby – no report.
Shoreline Planning: Joe Campbell – reported that Cherokee is back in the picture for Camden redevelopment program, but overall picture has changed.
Webmaster: Bryon Campbell – Website now offers classified ads - $5 per month. Look for Princess Jessica’s letter to Juice. Check website regularly for updates and events schedule.
Yearbook: Juice – Yearbook is done on schedule and will be delivered at May DRYL meeting.
Boater Voter: No report
CBYCA: John Garlotta – Roster Book will be distributed at the April 21st meeting at Boumi Shrine Center. This meeting will be the kickoff of CBYCA’s 50th anniversary. Cocktail party will follow meeting. Contact John for details.
National Boating Federation (NBF): Bob Williams – no report.
Pennsylvania Boating Association - SE (PBA): Rex Beers - Governor called meeting with everyone involved in outdoor activities to determine how to get more people, especially youth, more involved in outdoor recreation activities. Task force is being formed. Changes are being made to internet licensing procedures. Bristol has applied for $200,000 in grant money for waterfront improvements. See website for full details.
Pennsylvania Boating Association – state: Bill Garwood – spoke about effects of global warming. Opening days for trout season will vary.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Reviewed DRYL Event Schedule for insurance coverage.
NEW BUSINESS
Mark Brasberger from Riverwinds YC has submitted application for DRYL membership to the secretary. Juice will appoint committee to attend meeting of Riverwinds YC and make recommendation to delegates. Juice made a motion to have league pay for officer and committee name tags – passed.
FINANCIAL REPORTS
A motion was made, seconded and approved to pay the bills.
GOOD AND WELFARE
Delaware River Sailing School (Bill Garwood, representative) is looking for 12-13 foot jon boat for sale. If anyone knows of one for sale or a donation, please contact Bill at 215-947-4987.
PYC – John Maloney reported St. Patty’s benefit raised $2500 (despite bad weather) for the family of their rear commodore whose wife passed away recently.
Harbor Lights – Dingy poker run on Saturday, July 7th – see Kevin Huntley
QCYC Princess Party – April 21st - $20 and "120" party – April 28th – raffle $20
Ran-Del Opening Day – Sunday, May 6th at Riverside Marina at 1pm
Bob Bocock presented flyers documenting DRYL position to be sent to various organizations and governmental agencies to keep DRYL in the mind of the powers that be. An updated version is being produced.
Red Dragon – Shad dinner on April 21st.
Farragut Sportsmen’s Association had their 100th anniversary dinner in March. In light of this, Joe Campbell recommends to clubs to appoint a club historian to collect, keep and pass down club histories for future generations of club members.
50/50 won by Toni from Capitol City YC in the amount of $42.
Next meeting is May 1st at Anchor YC in Bristol, PA
