MINUTES - D.R.Y.L. Meeting hosted by Westville PBA

October 6, 2009

 

OPENING:  Meeting called to order @ 8:00pm by first Vice President, John Maloney, who introduced Curtis Newfer, Bar Chairman.  Bill is out with an eye infection.  Curtis thanked everyone for coming.  A moment of silence was held for Kathy Maloney who died September 23, 2009.

GUEST SPEAKER: Michael Lang, Project Director for the Camden Shipyard & Maritime Museum, who spoke about working with kids, building boats and learning about boating.  He is affiliated w/IBoat.com and will be developing a ship museum in Camden.  For more information go to www.camdenshipmuseum.org.

OFFICERS & COMMITTEE REPORTS

President:  Juice – no report - not feeling well.

1st Vice President: John Maloney – mentioned Kathy’s passing and thanked everyone for their kind words and prayers.

2nd Vice President: Butch Gricco – no report.

3rd Vice President: Steve Zielinski – no report. 

Secretary:  Rick Patton – no report.

Audit & Budget: Bill Branchide – no report.

Banquet:  Mary Jusino – no report.

Cruise:  Bob Grace – no report.

Donations – no requests.

Fleet Surgeon: Harry Borgersen – no report.

NJ Legislation: John Honer – Task force has not been formed yet regarding public access to marina property. 


Pageant:  Toni Nespola – Toni is working on the 2009 pageant financials and will report next month.  Currently looks like $550 loss.

Picnic: Marie Houseworth – Picnic was Saturday, September 12th at Pennsylvania Yacht Club. Thanks to Pennsylvania Yacht Club for grounds and help.  Marie also thanked all clubs and individuals who helped with picnic.  151 attendees (adults & kids) $3,732 turned in tonight.  Profit of $1504.55.

Public Affairs: Bill Garwood – no report.

Regatta:  Fred Saunders – no report. 

Safe Boating: Frank Gilbert – Frank distributed a handout on Cold Water Boating.

Shoreline Planning: Joe Campbell – no report.

Webmaster:  Paul Jusino/Ben Lewitt – no report.

Yearbook:  Denise Leo – no report.  Yearbook is looking for new chairperson and people to help with yearbook for 2010.

Boater Voter: Joe Campbell – no report.

CBYCA:  Bob Williams – no report.

National Boating Federation (NBF): Bob Williams – no report.  Meetings started this week in Las Vegas.  Bob will not be attending.

Pennsylvania Boating Association - SE (PBA): Bill Garwood – Last meeting at Anchor YC in Bristol, PA.  Guest speaker from Bucks County Redevelopment Authority presented 20 year plan for riverfront.  Bob will try to get copies of brochures they passed out.  For more information, go to www.bcrda.com.

NEW BUSINESS

·         Picnic expense - $1,227.45

·         Recording Secretary – Baskets/Donations/Stamps - $153.90

·         Check being voided and rewritten to Linda Pyffer in the amount $43.08 for pageant expenses

·         Article in newspaper on Rails to Trails – nothing related to power boating.  John Maloney suggests we get someone on the committee so the boater’s voice can be heard and that letters be written. Also, to be heard by waterfront developers such as casinos.  Let them know the numbers we represent. 

·         Motion to send a Get Well basket to Juice was approved

 

FINANCIAL REPORTS

Corrected for August - Checkbook opening balance for August was $15,986.28.  Financial secretary reported income of $2,937.00 while Phyllis Blackeby reported disbursements of $6,306.23, resulting in a checkbook closing balance of $12,617.05.

 

Corrected for September - Checkbook opening balance for September was $12,617.05.  Financial secretary reported income of $3,211.00 while Phyllis Blackeby reported disbursements of $2,978.58, resulting in a checkbook closing balance of $12,849.47.

 

Checkbook opening balance for October was $12,849.47.  Financial secretary reported income of $3,772.00 while Phyllis Blackeby reported disbursements of $1,424.43, resulting in a checkbook closing balance of $15,197.04. A motion was made, seconded and approved to pay the bills

 

GOOD AND WELFARE

·         John Honer mentioned article about if you are over 65, you may have less of a chance of contracting the Swine Flu.

·         FSA Closing Day/Halloween Party on October 17

·         Wissinoming presented Westville with new burgee

·         Harbor Light YC Closing Day is Saturday, October 10th

·         Anchor YC Closing Day is November 7th

·         John Andrusco received $40 for the attendance award

 

CLOSING:  A motion was made, seconded and approved to adjourn the meeting at 8:45pm.
