The 5th Annual NHYC / DRYL Caribbean Cruise

Well we are all home safe and sound and I am willing to bet everyone is a little bit heavier! I think it is safe to say that everyone had a wonderful vacation and enjoyed themselves. I know Mary & I had a blast and we both found it was very nice to be among good friends and good people to enjoy this Caribbean vacation.

We had close to 90 people from a dozen or so DRYL Clubs and I must say the best part of the vacation was no matter what corner, or crevice of the almost 1000 feet of ship we were in or what port we were visiting, it was always nice you see a familiar face whenever we looked around.

I met with and had a short conversation with the Captain of the ship and Mary and I posed with him with our DRYL Burgee for some pictures. After the pictures were taken I asked him if it was possible to fly our DRYL Burgee at the next port and he agreed! The next morning when we pulled into Cozumel Mexico and made our way off the ship and looked up on the bridge it was a site that I will always remember ….. The Captain kept with his word and had our DRYL Burgee hoisted up the bridge pole. It flew high and waved in the breeze all day. What a site that was. He even signed it as well..... I think a tradition has just started.

Every morning when we awoke we were at a new port except for Friday when we had a day at sea which made for a great trip. We started off in Ft Lauderdale, cruised to Key West, made our way to Cozumel Mexico, then off to The Cayman Islands and then we spent Valentine’s Day in Montego Bay Jamaica. Close to 1500 NM were traveled and we were cruising in 20-25 knot range. With over 3000 people, food, drink, fuel, water and all the interior furnishing I still find it hard to believe that these ships cruise that fast.

The service, the food, and the shows and the plethora of frozen drinks made for an excellent 6 days and Mother Nature played a part by keeping foul weather out of the picture. Speaking of pictures, I want to thank Bob Libby ( FSA - Ebb Tide ) for his picture taking ability as he got us some great pics of the DRYL Flag flying high above the Radiance Of The Seas. I will be posting pictures that I took and many others have promised me that their pictures will be sent to me shortly so we should have some great, amusing and amazing pictures up here over the next couple of weeks.

Some high-lights …..

·         Cherry Vanilla ( Chris Salvador – FSA ) coming in second in the belly flop competition

·         Past President Bob Bocock ( YAC ) being on stage doing his best dog impressions in an Old MacDonald Had A Farm Skit.

·         Yours truly coming in second place in a Texas Hold Em Tournament – Get this, 1st Place was cash, a cruise for 2 in December and a chance to compete for a $100,000.00 cash tournament on that cruise. Luckily for me, Mary & I do not need $100K or want to do a cruise in December - yeah RIGHT !

·         2nd VP Butch Gricco ( HLYC ), Riverside YC P/C John McCann and King of The River Shawn Malloy ( HLYC )being shot out of a water slide cannon ( more like a water sewer cannon ) LOL

·         Tinkerbelle making an appearance in Jamaica – her last sighting was HLYC on Halloween.

·         Past DRYL Queen Jill Hudson ( NHYC ) having her room key pulled by a server and winning her cabin fare back.

All in all, it was a great vacation and I hope you get to see our DRYL Burgee fly high next year in the Caribbean with us!!!

More Pictures Will Be Added Soon!
